How we
met...
On the internet.
We wanted to
share our story because...
I wanted to tell my
wedding story, because I am a 44 year old woman and I wanted to let everyone
know that love does truly find a way at any age.
How
he proposed... Rob
and I decided to go for a walk to see the new place that we were going to be
moving into. We had already picked the ring together, but it was taking
quite a long time to come in and as usual I was getting impatient. When the
conversation came around to the ring, I mentioned to Rob that maybe he
should call them "they may have forgot to order it" I said. Rob said that
the sales person said that it could take up to three months to come in. I
got upset and said no she didn't maybe two months is what she said. Rob
started to pull something out of his pocket wrapped in a Kleenex and smiled
saying "that's not what she told me when I picked it up today" Will you
Marry me. Needless to say I screamed, cried and said yes and we are to be
married on June 2/07.
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
I am so excited. I have
waited a long time to find the right man. Rob is truly my soul mate. He is
the most patient understanding and loveable man I have ever met. Everyday
seems like a new adventure and he lets me know that he loves me everyday by
his actions and words. I am a very lucky girl.
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Our wedding is
traditional yet modern. I have a beautiful white wedding dress and Rob is
going to be in a very elegant tuxedo. I have 4 adult bridesmaids 2 junior
bridesmaids, a matron of honour and a flower girl. Rob has 4 adult groomsman
and a best man. We are so excited that both our parents are here to share
this incredible day with us. My father is 82 and he is going to walk me down
the aisle. My mother is 80 and she is going to take part in the unity candle
ceremony. We are getting married at a Chapel and the reception is at the Uk
Club Hall.
Our colour/theme:
My bridesmaids are in
coral. My maid of honour is in purple and the little ones are in
purple/white. The men are wearing black tux's with white shirts and ties to
match the girls. Rob is wearing a pair of grey black (pinstripe) tux with
white shirt and black tie, jacket is dark grey.
planning
So far (by
May 8, 2007) we've planned...
Everything is done now.
The first thing we did was book the hall, I got my dress and then we booked
the chapel. We booked the food next and the rest fell into place.
Our biggest concern right now is...
My biggest concern is
the weather. I really want it to be a nice day. We can't control that so we
just hope that people have a good time. We hope that the food is great and
that we really get to enjoy the day.

How we're feeling...
Well it is just 3
weeks and a few days away. Rob and I went to see the DJ tonight and we gave
him our song choices etc. We had a wedding shower (couples wine and cheese)
on Sunday and it was do much fun. It was a gift certificate shower and we
received almost $1,000 in gift certificates. People purchased them from CT,
Sears, Bay etc. I am having my makeup trial tomorrow and my dress fitting
next week. Rob is so sweet, he has been working on getting the music onto a
CD for the DJ.
The groom surprised me
by... When Rob
was putting our music on CD, we played our first dance song Dido's The
Closer You Get. I saw tears in his eyes when that was playing and he said he
can't wait to look into my eyes and dance to it.
What's going on with my
bridal party... The
girl's bridesmaids dresses came in and there are alterations to be done. I
picked out some material to make the girls' shawls.
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
The frustrating thing that
happened is that everyone has an opinion about how things should go. For
example who should be in the limo etc.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
We had the amazing wine and
cheese and Rob's project is going great. We also have been invited for a
dinner party celebrating our wedding to the house of the Vice President of
Finance at Rob's company.
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Replies for the wedding.
Why can't people get their replies in on time.
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
No major issues this month. We
have to work buying some food (trays) into the budget so that people can
have a nibble at the hall during cocktail hour.
And the hunt
continues... All
vendors are hired and confirmed. I talked Rob into having chair covers on
all the chairs at the hall. We were originally going to have them at the
head tables only.
Advice for out
brides out there...
That I can't wait for our wedding day. I know that there is a lot of
planning and money that goes into this, but I can't wait to see it all come
together on June 2/07.

How we're feeling...
We are married
the wedding went off without a hitch and we just returned from a week in
Panama. That was our paradise.
The groom surprised me
by... Rob is
amazing. He was so wonderful every single day. Everyday I am reminded of why
I fell in love with him!
What's going on with my
bridal party... The
bridesmaids/ushers were fab. They even went into the fountain for some
amazing pics. Who knows what was in those fountains? LOL
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
Just that we found Paradise.
After being up for 32 hours straight, we arrived at our destination and were
completely overwhelmed with the beauty and tranquility of our resort, pics
to follow!
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
We came home and opened lots of
unbelievable presents and money cards. Everyone was so generous.
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Just that 14 people
didn't show and only 2 called and sent a gift. That is really maddening as
we are not only paying for dinner, but also chair covers and linen for those
tables.
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
We came in $2000 under budget
and we managed to bring home $300 US spending from our Honeymoon.
And the hunt
continues... We are
now looking at buying a new car and we hopefully will be looking for a house
next year.
Advice for out
brides out there...
Just enjoy the day. Don't stress out because it is true, EVERY bride looks
beautiful on their wedding day.
The Wedding Story
our big day:
June 2, 2007
The week of the wedding...
I started having a terrible sore throat and was at the doctor's on the
Thursday to get a prescription for antibiotics and cough medicine. By Friday
I was told not to speak.
I was freaking out before the wedding about...
The
woman who was making the wedding cake's husband ended up in the hospital in
serious condition and they weren't sure if he would make it. Needless to
say, I felt sorry for her, but felt like a bridezilla because I was also
worried about the wedding cake. Also, the day before the wedding, the chair
covers arrived and I hadn't ordered enough and because I wasn't there the
supplier would not leave the rest or bill me later for them. Luckily, the
woman who runs the UK Club paid it for us so that we had the correct number
of chair covers at our tables.
I was cool as a
cucumber because...
I
found out about the chair cover incident about 10:00 pm and I was cool
because there was nothing I could do. Rob says the wedding plans are never
completed they are just stopped because you can never complete them.
The
wedding rehearsal story...
One of our ushers (the one coming from Cornwall) did not arrive in time for
the rehearsal. He kept calling the cell phone and I was getting very
stressed but then Rob made me leave the phone in the car (or I should say,
he hid the phone in the car.)
Getting ready, the morning of the wedding...
It was actually quite relaxed. My hair appointment went great and all of the
bridesmaids were at the house on time. I really got emotional when my
82-year-old father saw me in my dress for the first time. We all cried - my
parents paid for the dress, but my father didn't want to see it till the
wedding day.
Our
people (bridesmaids, Moms, groomsmen, etc.) were...
We really had a great wedding party. On the wedding day, we were so hot so I
decided that we should all have some pictures taken in the fountain at
Rockway Gardens. You never know what is in there! I talked the girls into it
first and the photographer started taking pictures and we were all having so
much fun. It really cooled us off, too. I asked Rob and the rest of the guys
to do it and they didn't want to at all. But, bit by bit, each usher took
their socks and shoes off and went in. Finally, when Rob's best man and
brother Paul finally gave in, Rob did too. They are some of the best
pictures ever.
My
thoughts before the ceremony...
When I got to the chapel I was really nervous. I couldn't find a good place
to put my vows, so I ended sticking them down my top. LOL
The ceremony was...
Perfect. The minister mixed a lot of joy and laughter into it and we felt
really relaxed. My friend Byron and some of his friends played live music,
and when we were signing the register, he sang a song that he wrote for us
called 'Let Love Lead'... It was beautiful and there wasn't a dry eye
anywhere!
The photoshoot was...
Long and hot, but we got most of the shots that we wanted. Some of my family
didn't show up at the park which was very disappointing, but I got the
family pictures I wanted at the hall.
The
reception looked...
The hall was decorated beautifully and we achieved our goal of covering up
the disco ball in the centre of the dance floor.
The speeches were...
Great. My father wrote a poem and Rob's dad's speech was heartfelt. My
sister's was funny and also heartfelt and Rob's brother's was amazing. He
really touched me with the words he said about Rob and I.
The reception was...
We partied until 12:00 am, at which point we had our last song 'Dance Us to
the End of Love' by Leonard Cohen - and everyone joined hands in a circle to
bid us farewell. It was lovely!
A few things went wrong...
When we returned from our honeymoon, I found out that Paul (BM) had lost the
bag that had the marriage license in it. Apparently he forgot to bring it
from the chapel to the hall. However - just before he was about to break
down and tell us about it, someone in my family told him to check the gift
table (it was in a gift bag.) So as we were leaving, he casually came out
with the bag and said, "Here is your license, you might need this." We knew
nothing about all of this until later when the family came clean. I would
have freaked, because we needed it to prove we were honeymooners at the
resort. There they photocopied it and then upgraded us to the honeymoon
suite.
A few
things made us laugh...
The
girls decided that when the time came for the toast, they would smile with
fake teeth that looked like Austin Powers' horrible teeth. It was
hilarious.
My
bridal gown, hair and make-up was...
Beautiful. Everyone said that I looked stunning. The most important part was
that my dad said I looked like a princess. Rob loved all of it, too.
The groom looked...
Very dashing with his tux and tails. He was smiling the whole time and he
didn't seem nervous at all (although I was told by many that he was.)
Overall the day was...
Fantastic. It was my dreams fulfilled from when I was a child playing with
Wedding Barbie and hoping someday my prince would come. It took a long time
to find Rob, my husband, but I thank God everyday for making him send me
that smile online. I truly felt like a Princess and that I married my
soulmate and Prince Charming (or I should say Prince John Robert Duncan.)
